Grow gets Bags of Help from Tescos

Great news - Grow has been shortlisted for a public vote in Tesco's Bags of Help initiative.  You can vote for us by putting your blue tokens in the Grow box in Tescos Express Stores across Brighton and Hove during the months of July and August.  Please help spread the word amongst your friends and family and let's get voting - the project with the most votes receives £4000.

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to local community projects.
Bags of Help offers community groups and projects across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags. The public will now vote in store during July and August on who should receive the £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 awards.  For more info on the scheme visit www.tesco.com/bagsofhelp

Soul of the City Choir Support Grow

The wonderful Soul of the City Choir have adopted Grow as their charity for the year helping us to raise money by collecting for us at their end of term gigs.

Soul of the City is a fun, friendly community choir based in Brighton and Hassocks singing an uplifting mix of pop, soul and gospel music.  They understand that singing can be almost as good as nature for wellbeing and they're keen to support us in any way they can.

They're next performing at the lovely Old Market in Hove on Saturday 15th July in a double bill at 5.30pm and 8pm.  We'd love it if you could come along to the gig and support the choir (and in turn support Grow!)

Tickets priced £8.50 (£6.50 for concessions) are available online from https://www.wegottickets.com/event/406451

Sussex countryside dramatically improves mental health

University of Brighton have evaluated our Grow programme to find that being in the countryside has huge benefits to people suffering with mental health issues.

We know from direct feedback that people experience increased confidence and improved self esteem on our programme,  but it's fantastic that the University of Brighton have been able to validate that.

One past Grow participant has said:

“I have absolutely loved the whole experience – it’s changed my life. I have been so anxious – I have struggled to go out for the past couple of years. I have looked out of the window and craved the peace and silence of nature – and just not had the energy, motivation or courage to leave the flat.”
